ABOUT CINDY

Cindy Sadler is a professional opera singer, voice teacher, writer, and consultant. She frequently appears on the stage of Austin Lyric Opera, most recently as Mère Jeanne in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Berta in The Barber of Seville, First Maid in Elektra, and Mrs. Patrick de Rocher in Dead Man Walking. Her performance career takes her to venues all over the United States. In recent seasons she has appeared with Andrea Bocelli in Cavalleria Rusticana, and has been heard on the stages of Chicago Lyric Opera, New Orleans Opera, Minnesota Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Opera Pacific, the Hollywood Bowl, Arizona Opera, El Paso Opera, Fort Worth Opera, and many others.

Cindy is on the voice faculty at St. Edwards University, where she helps students develop their voices through private instruction and a Fundamentals of Voice Class. She has also taught an opera and musical theatre class, and established and directs Spotlight on Opera, St. Ed's opera ensemble, and also a summer opera training and performance program for avocational singers and aspiring professionals alike. She maintains a private voice studio and her students perform in many concerts and choruses around town.

Cindy has long been known as "Erda", of Classical Singer Magazine’s "Ask Erda" advice column. (In Norse mythology, Erda is the all-knowing Earth Goddess; and Cindy sings this role in Wagner’s Ring Cycle). She has published over 100 articles in the magazine, and for many years has served on the magazine’s steering committee. She is a favorite speaker at the annual Classical Singer Convention. Cindy is also the author of The Student Singer’s Starter Kit and the popular Next 100 Pounds blog.

In addition to these activities, Cindy is well-known for her Business of Singing seminars and private consultations. She works with singers of all ages to help them navigate the often murky waters of the classical singing industry: showing young singers how to get started in the business, helping late bloomers jumpstart their careers, strategizing and problem-solving with established singers. Her lecture series is in demand with universities, Young Artists Programs, and music organizations across the United States.

Cindy lives in Austin with her software engineer husband Eric, and two opera-hating (but people-loving) Dachshunds, Samson and Dalila.
